Demolition well underway.

Several hundred spectators gathered to watch the main event.

There she goes, the main event as the dome topples

Hundreds gathered for this and huge cheers erupted from the crowd. The digger driver gave a huge thumbs up in acknowledgment.  

With the fall of last second floor wall, the day's show was over just after 2:00 pm.

The only bit of rubble top fall outside there footprint of the building about to hit the deck.

The remains were removed a few days later as there site was levelled. A great job by the contractors, Paul Smith Earthmoving.

Hydro Grand Demolition

Part 1:

The Hydro Grand Hotel in Timaru was recently demolished as it was declared a real fire hazard and was structurally unsound as well. 

Past its use by date, The Hydro Grand occupied a prominent position over looking Caroline Bay.

Taken from almost the same spot after demolition.
