Driving down from Auckland to New Plymouth we stopped late in the afternoon at the mouth of the Tongaporutu river. A short walk takes you to the Three Sisters which are now two as one collapsed a few years ago and has been all but been eroded by the waves.
It is worth an hour or two at low tide but be aware of an incoming tide which could cut you off from safety.
